Applications of Open Cooling Towers

Mar 10, 2026

1. Waste heat generated during industrial production or refrigeration processes is generally removed using cooling water. The function of a cooling tower is to exchange heat between the cooling water carrying waste heat and the air within the tower, transferring the waste heat to the air and dissipating it into the atmosphere.

2. For example, in thermal power plants, boilers heat water into high-temperature, high-pressure steam, which drives turbines to generate electricity. The exhaust steam after the turbine's operation is discharged into a condenser, where it exchanges heat with cooling water, condensing into water, which is then pumped back to the boiler for reuse.

3. In this process, the waste heat from the exhaust steam is transferred to the cooling water, raising its temperature. The cooling water, carrying waste heat, then transfers this heat to the air within the cooling tower and is discharged into the atmosphere through the duct.

4. Applications of cooling towers: Primarily used in air conditioning cooling systems, refrigeration systems, injection molding, leather making, foaming, power generation, steam turbines, aluminum profile processing, air compressors, and industrial water cooling, with the air conditioning, refrigeration, and plastics/chemical industries being the most common applications.
